The Indian MBA

MBA is the global buzzword , be it recruiters or students , parents or evn potential matchmakers - evry1 wants an M.B.A !

So u aspire to bell the CAT ? Why do u wanna do an MBA ?

By origin management education was meant to be different and dynamic , unlike the traditional post graduate degree like Mcom or Msc.

However the scence in country like ours is quite different. An MBA is not abt the management exposure , not abt team management skills or communication or people skills - its more of a Job Exchange. Dont get me wrong - its not that Indian MBA's lack in these , its just that the focuss of the entire process is getting the 10 figure package which one woudnt have got with the MBA tag.

This atitude flows down from the top to the bottom. Management fests are more about gala partyng , management books more abt getting CGPA - the whole essence of MBA is starkingly ruined. We Indians are still the best managers among the world - and that speaks for our abilities, but its not a reflection of our education system. The very system of taking in freshers for Mba courses and creating focuss on campus placements reduces an MBA to just like any other academic course - not a professional dynamic course that people associate an MBA with !

This is why we find a good percentage of us going for an 2nd MBA abroad later on. The trend is changing and the PGPX courses as well as ISB and GreatLakes are a new horizon in Indian management education , but it would be soime time before the culture , the atitude towards management education witnesses a considerable shift.
